City Directories

In 1901 Foster's Publishing began to create Directories for Sault Ste. Marie; they continued until 1906 when Vernon's Publishing bought the company. Vernon's has continued to create the Directories to the present day.
With permission from the publisher, the Museum has digitized the Directories from 1901 - 1960. Some of the early Directories include a map of the Town / City of that year. You will note that some Directories are double year, this is a result of the publication date and only one directory being created to cover both years. Also there was no Directory created for 1949, 1958 or 1960 for the Sault (reason is unknown).
Each Directory is divided into three sections - a) by street; b) alphabetically by surname; c) business directory (by category)
The Directories are searchable by word or may be viewed page by page using the Navigation Pane at the left of the screen. When searching by name, if you do not get a match, try a different spelling. Some names were not documented as they are spelled today.
From 1906 to 1917 there was a separate section in each Directories for Steelton divided into the three separate sections.
